AI agent vs chatbot: what is the difference?

A chatbot replies to messages. An AI agent takes actions to reach a goal: it plans the steps, uses tools and apps, checks the result and carries on. Ask a chatbot "where is my order?" and it explains how to check. Ask an agent, and it checks, then tells you.
